Grade 10 Fall Semester Older Son’s Goals and Homeschool Plans

I just finished the planning for my older son for the fall semester. I am still working on the plans for my younger son. The fall semester 2012 represents the most diverse learning experiences we have done at any one point in time.

Academic Goals:

Continue taking college prep courses required for his desired major, engineering.

Finish preparing (at home using study materials and practice tests) to take and pass the ACT COMPASS exam which is the admissions requirement for community college. This will prepare him to take cc classes in the spring 2013 semester.

Finish Biology, which was not completed in grade 9 due to medical problems taking time away from a full courseload.

Add Algebra II now instead of waiting until finish Geometry due to requirement for Chemistry course. He will try to do both at the same time but if that is too confusing, he will do Algebra II in double time and when it is completed, will go back to finish Geometry. The goal is to finish both before the end of grade 10.

Improve writing composition and increase confidence in his ability to do academic writing.

Continue to streamline study processes and to improve on organization and time management skills.

Extracurricular Goals:

Plan and work on his Boy Scout Eagle project. He set a goal to finish before the end of 2012 so he can earn the rank in the 100th year anniversary of the rank.

Continue activities with Boy Scout honor society, Order of the Arrow.

Continue with competitive rowing, a four season community team sport.

Continue with participation on the FIRST Robotics Competition with the local community team.

Get his driver’s permit and begin driving instruction.
