Beatrice Lewis




Mrs. Beatrice Lewis was born on November 14, 1917 in Winston County, Mississippi to Mr. Charles Dugan & Mrs. Georgia Dugan. Her early childhood was spent in Louisville, Mississippi. At the age of 6, Beatrice and her family moved to Fort Coffee, Oklahoma where she received her formal education.
Beatrice was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her hobbies included gardening and word search puzzles. She was an avid quilter, babysitter of numerous grandchildren and a champion dominoes player. She enjoyed making jelly, teacakes and providing a comfortable home for her family. She was a faithful member of Macedonia Church of God. Beatrice’s civic contributions included: election poll worker for the LeFlore County Election Board, volunteer for the Fort Coffee Head Start Program and participating in the activities of the Fort Coffee Senior Citizen program.

Beatrice is preceded in death by her father, mother, four brothers, three sisters, one daughter, Georgia Ann and her husband, Leroy.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: daughters, Lula Mae Johnson and Kathleen Scott of Fort Coffee, Oklahoma; son, Sergeant Major Marvail Lewis, Retired of Fort Coffee, Oklahoma; a sister, Geneva Ruff of Spiro, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Gary Lewis, Sheryl Scott-Smith, Antoine Lewis, Belinda Scott, LaWanda Phillips, Fredie Scott II, Carrie Hartsfield and Erin K. Lewis; fifteen great grandchildren, Tyler Scott, Blake Scott, Cashmere Phillips, Cathleen Scott, Everette Jones, Marshall Jones, Antianna Lewis, Raneisha Lewis, Antoine Lewis Jr., Cherish Phillips, Chairity Phillips, Janiah Lewis, Gary Lewis II, Jasmine Scott and Brianna Scott; three great-great grandchildren, Brooklynn Scott, Nevaeh Scott and Londynn Scott; and an abundance of nieces, nephews, family and friends

Services will be 11 am, Friday - September 23, 2011 at Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Fort Coffee, OK with Pastor Wesley D. Hooks officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Coffee Cemetery, Fort Coffee, OK. The family will be at the funeral home in Pocola on Thursday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with friends and relatives.
