Ashton was a giver, her mother said. The popular 14-year-old cheerleader mentored students with special needs at her school, Northwood High, and often went out of her way to help her younger brother, who is mildly autistic.

The girl's liver, an organ that can regenerate, was split into two parts for two patients, she said. Each of the kidneys went to a separate person.
Aside from the organs, Ashton donated corneas, skin and other tissue that will help patients with needs such as cleft palates, her mother said.
