Laura Louise Hansen was born October 26, XXXX. Her parents were Donald Julius Hansen, Jr and Phyllis Edith Kramer who were married March 18, 1946 in Omaha, Nebraska. This was the second marriage for both. They met while stationed together at Fort Knox Kentucky during WW II, Laura started school in Omaha before moving to Kentucky. Laura graduated from Owensboro (Kentucky) High School, where her mother’s first husband, Joe Brown was the principal.
Laura worked for five years and accumulated a college Junior’s worth of semester hours before she joined the Navy. She worked as a freelance artist in Owensboro, KY. Next she worked as a layout artist for the Messenger Job Printing Company until 1969, then went to work at Hardin Printing and then Progress Printing. Finally, Laura took a job with V. E. Anderson in advertising. She started active duty 19 January 1973, completing boot camp 16 March 1973. She started as a journalist, with duty stations at Naval Station, Rota, Spain, NAVCOMMSTA H. E. Holt, Northwest Cape, Western Australia, recruiting orientation school in Orlando, Florida, Navy Recruit District, San Antonio, Texas, Career Councilor School, San Diego, Naval Support Office, La Maddalena, Sardinia, Training Air Wing Three, Chase Field, Texas, USS Norton Sound, Port Hueneme, California, Antarctic Development Squadron Six, Pt Mugu, California, Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington D.C. and USS Simon Lake, Sardinia. Laura retired 31 January 1995 after 22 years service, as a Chief Petty Officer.
Phyllis was born March 20, 1922 in Ridgway, Illinois and died December 14, 2004 in Owensboro, Kentucky. Her parents were Theodore James Kramer, Sr and Edith Dell Black. Theodore was born March 26, 1889 in Fairfield, Illinois, the son of James Henry Kramer and Ellen Wilson. He was married October 2, 1910 in Fairfield to Edith Dell Black. Theodore died January 10, 1977 in Fort Collins, Colorado. Edith, daughter of Charles Henry Black and Samantha June Irwin, was born March 12, 1890 in Whitehall, Illinois and died July 22, 1966 in Fulton, Kentucky. The Black family was of Scottish descent with Henry Black, born 1752, being the first generation in Pennsylvania. The Irwin family is also of Scottish descent going back to William Irvine, born 1608. Christopher Irwin came to the U. S. And settled in North Carolina.
Henry Kramer, Sr., Laura’s third great grandfather, was born 15 January 1808 in Prussia. He married Eva Wise there before emigrating to the U. S. In 1833. Eva was born 25 March 1810. Together they had at least six children, all born in Illinois, except the first son, Henry, Jr. The Kramers lived in Wabash county, Illinois. The children were: Henry, born 23 May 1830; Sophia, born 1838; Louis Wise, born 20 May 1841; Christian, born about 1843; Mary, born about 1846; and Sarah, born about 1850. Henry, Sr. Died 14 August 1888 and Eva died 3 March 1891.
Henry Kramer, Jr., Laura’s second great grandfather was born in Germany 23 May 1830 and died in Fairfield, Illinois 8 December 1915. He married Martha Calverley 28 September 1854 in Mt Carmel, Illinois. Martha was born 28 October 1833 in Beverley, England and died 21 July 1915 in Fairfield, Illinois. She emigrated to the U. S. In 1843. She was the daughter of James Dickinson Calverley and June Dickens of Yorkshire, England. Together Henry and Martha had twelve children, three of which died as infants. The others were: James Henry, born 24 October 1855; Edward Charles, born 1 February 1857; Samuel L, born 23 December 1858; William Thomas, born 4 November 1860; Theodore Albert, born 8 December 1862; Clara Charlotte, born 22 February 1868; Sophia Isabel, born 12 April 1870; Rhude J, born 28 February 1872; and Harry Summerfield, born 9 August 1874. All were born in Illinois. The Calverley family is descended from the Calverleys in Yorkshire, England. Charles Henry Calverly came to the U. S. And started a family in Wayne county, Illinois.
The oldest son, James Henry Kramer was Laura’s great grandfather. He was born in Wabash county and married Ellen Wilson, daughter of John and Eliza Jane Harper Wilson, in Fairfield on 25 September 1883. Henry was variously a teacher, lumberman and banker. He died in Fairfield 30 October 1935. Ellen preceded him in death on 31 July 1904. They had three children, all born in Fairfield: Kate E, born 11 August 1885; Camille, born 20 February 1887; and Theodore James, Sr., born 26 March 1889.
Theodore, Laura’s grandfather, married Edith Dell Black, daughter of Charles Henry Black and Samantha June Irwin. Theodore and Edith were married 2 October 1910 in Fairfield.
Ted died 10 January 1977 in Fort Collins, Colorado. Edith died 22 July 1966 in Fulton, Kentucky. Their four children were born in Illinois: Henry Randolph, born 11 May 1911; Charles Edward, born 2 January 1913; Theodore James, Jr., born 4 October 1916; and Phyllis Edith, Laura’s mother, born 20 March 1922. Phyllis first married Joe Brown, then married Laura’s father, Donald J Hansen, Sr.
