One Opinion on School Choice

This disgusts me.

Private schools, charter schools and magnet schools have admissions procedures that act as gatekeepers for their schools. They check to see if the students would do well there. Tests are often taken and scores evaluated. Kids are sometimes interviewed. There are usually prerequisites for what course material was taught in the past, and what grades were received. Some schools require letters of recommendation about a child's behavior.

I think Americans should have more options for school choice, not just private schools but for public schools.

Even if a parent thinks they know what school is right for a child, it doesn't mean that child can gain admission to the school. I don't understand what Debbie Squires is saying. I also take exception to her referring to parents of a child/student as a "resident". I would like to hear some examples of where Ms. Squires feels that a parent's desires for their children to have a better education have been off the mark.
